Last Day in Ketchikan Day 9

It is 6:25 am and the kids and I have been awake for nearly an hour.  It is bright outside until 11:00 pm and the sunlight streams through the window a little before 5:00 am.  So, while we are having a great time, we are definitely not catching up on sleep.

We are sad to leave our vacation home in Ketchikan.  We haven't ventured out into the town much, other than to go to the grocery store.  Our vacation home has everything we could want and it is relaxing to stay settled for a bit.  We did, however, visit a tribal salmon hatchery and eagle rehabilitation center yesterday. We also toured the former "bawdy" district of Ketchikan and watched the enormous cruise ships coming into port.

By the time we got home, the temperature was near 80 degrees in the sun so the kids had a great time swimming in Alaskan waters.  I even have a sunburn, which is not something I expected to get here.  The kids finished their day yesterday by building a fire in the firepit and cooking s'mores.  Lots of fun.

Tomorrow, we leave on the ferry for a 2 night trip up the inside passage to Haines, AK.  It will be difficult leaving this place.  The town is not that amazing, but our home is.
